MISSION STATEMENT

The Oakland Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1990. The department is located at 4435 Hwy 69S about 2 miles east of Paris and is responsible for the fire protection of ESN 119.  The district contains the communities of Oakland and Manleyville, with over 700 residences and businesses.  The department is also the first in mutual aid response for the City of Paris FD.

The department provides the following services for it's residents:  Fire Suppression, Vehicle Crash Rescue, Collapse Rescue, Haz-Mat Response and Medical First Response.

 DEPARTMENT HISTORY

The department started with a 1958 tanker and a 1961 pumper.  In 2000, the department received a refurbished tanker; the original was retired and sold.  In 2004, the department received a FEMA Grant for a new 2004 pumper.  Other vehicles include a 1993 brush truck (donated by TVA), a 1986 Ford Tanker and 1979 Mack Pumper (both donated by Carroll County Fire/Rescue).

Members include several first responders and a Paramedic.  In 2004, the department received an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) from the county EMA office.  In 2005, we received medical supplies for our first responders again from the EMA office.  In the near future, the department will be assuming the responsibility of vehicle extrication for ESN 119.

The department responds to approximately 40 calls a year including grass/brush fires, structure fires, medical assists, motor vehicle accidents and mutual aid calls to all county fire departments.

The department has 20 slots for firefighters and currently has 20 members.  Personnel include a Chief, Assistant Chief, Communications Officer,  Training/Safety Officer, Maintenance Officer and 14 firefighters.  There are no paid staff, the members are 100% volunteer.

Currently, there is interest in the Manleyville area to add a second station.  The community has done a survey and there is definitely a need for a station 2. The proposed location is at the intersection of Hwy 641 South and Manleyville Road.

The founding fathers of the department are Ron Hudson, Donald Brown & Doris Evans.
